Agricamper near Ginosa - 15 October 2022
Similar night to the previous night, quiet apart from the road noise.
Was good to have home made Granola again for breakfast today - I’ve been a bit lazy (and busy) and haven’t made it for a couple of weeks. Tastes so much better than shop bought!
I drove today, only 30 minutes to another Agricamper in Ginosa. Tintin had read about it, and was most insistent we come - and not just for the farm!
We’ve both been up in a gyrocopter with our pilot, Pietro!
We arrived here about 10.30am, weren’t too sure about the place! Said hello to the friendly dog, saw the donkey and ponies, and lots of cats and kittens!
Pietro was up in the sky, but when he landed he asked whether we’d like to go up. Just after 11am, Tintin was up and away. The flights are about 35 minutes, you can go either towards Matera, or over Ginosa and the beach. Having been to Matera yesterday, we both decided for the latter.
It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, right on our doorstep. Haven’t paid yet, but it’s €120 each.
But wow! Surprisingly I wasn’t nervous at all! I don’t like heights anymore, but more of being on the edge high up and looking down kind of thing (like yesterday!).
There is such uniformity to the field after field of olive trees, and orange trees. You can see the irrigation for all the crops. Ginosa is bigger than I thought! The flight over the beach is incredible, the colour of the sea is turquoise and Pietro flies down low to the water. You feel like royalty as people wave, and you wave back!
Unfortunately I couldn’t really hear what Pietro was saying at times, but it didn’t distract. He took GoPro footage, which he kindly brought to us this evening.
Tintin has spent time this afternoon making a video out of both my iPhone video and his camera video - just doing the GoPro footage now.
For once, we’ve done nothing this afternoon. A couple from Switzerland arrived in their van, spoke with them for a while. They’ve been in Sicily - had their bikes stolen off the back!
Then, first time ever this trip, an English couple arrived in their van with two dogs. They’ve been living in France for 19 years, running gîtes. Lovely to speak English fluently for the first time in 4 weeks!
We’d washed our jeans today, (big box with detergent and hot water as we drove!) as we knew we’d be able to get more water here. Rinsed them out, spun them, hung them out - and nearly dry already! We’ve still got 3 weeks left, and worn jeans more often than we thought we would - and know it will be cold on the way home.
I felt sorry for their little dog, his fur is so matted in places, when Pietro was up with Tintin, I pulled out lots of tufts of dead fur. He’d be lovely with a good wash and brush!
The kittens joined us this afternoon, very friendly, lovely loud purrs, may have just all been cupboard love, they’re all really skinny - think they’re all hungry. Saw a little kitten just eating bugs. May have fed the black and white one some ham… Oh, I’d take them all if I could!
There are walks from here which has all the caves like Matera, but we’ve had a day off from ‘doing’.
It’s been a bit cooler today, maybe 19 - 20° - but no rain. Having seen the beaches today, maybe that’s where we need to go next - if we can find a suitable place to park-up!
We’d already had an avocado, tomato, mozzarella and pine nut salad at lunchtime, but I hadn’t used up the huge bread rolls we bought at the supermarket the other day - so a quick and tasty cheese on ‘toast’ tonight - still using the M&S cheddar!
