Cantina del Vesuvio at Trecase - 6 October 2022
We slept surprisingly well for being in a carpark. Well lit, so felt safe.
We were back in the sea by 9am! Yuck - putting on wet bathers! I’d washed them out properly last night instead of just rinsing, as didn’t know when we’d be swimming again.
All was going well - until I shrieked! If you know me, I’m not that sort of person! Tintin of course just laughed. I thought he’d grabbed my leg as I was swimming - no - must have been a fish - a big one! On the way swimming back - no current today - Tintin shrieked too! Haha - a fish ‘got’ him too. Wasn’t such a laughing matter then - and he got out! We know and understand that we’re invading the fishes environment - but I’d prefer not to be in contact with them!
A lazy, sorting morning - manicure and pedicures all round! I popped to the supermarket. Was a bit weird - not much food, but all houseware goods, toys etc - Woolworths on speed!
Bought some insect repellent to try, Aperol and Prosecco - all the basics covered!
After lunch, Tintin drove - nearly 3-1/2 hours in total. We’d looked and looked for somewhere else along the coast to park up. Most reviews weren’t good. Rubbish everywhere we could cope with, it’s the scary, creepy men hanging around, people being broken into - seems quite regularly - one said they stole not only what are perceived valuables, but also all their clothes and bedding. Decided a ten minute swim wasn’t worth the risk - and bypassed the whole area.
The scenery has changed again, loads of massive hills, and eventually our first sight of Mount Vesuvius.
Rubbish roads, then onto the autostrada - was €12.50 today for about 130km? The driving we’ve witnessed so far hasn’t been as bad as expected - but you see so many people weave around and across the white line, when you go past in the next lane - they’re usually on their phones! Also, people tend to tailgate you, right on the outside - plus they overtake not just a single white line, but a double white line too!
Even had a long section of three lanes of traffic with no white lines!
We did try to get more fuel on the autostrada - had a few issues, and ended up with only €20 worth. Was €1.80 per litre - had to use Mastercard, so will get a transaction charge, plus they’ll debit the account with €100, and eventually credit it with €80 - another weird system! Again - ha - we’d thought €1.74 earlier was too much - should just stop when we see it!
Traffic was certainly heavier approaching Naples. I’m sure Co-pilot had a little fit again today, our final 15 minutes driving here had me gripping the edge of my seat! At one point we had a man gesticulating to go backwards, I’d seen him, but Tintin was focusing on the problems up ahead. There was a train coming! Not much warning to be fair. As you can see, not much room for a Dave to get through, nearly touching both sides on our wing mirrors, which don’t fold in!
Suffice to say, were happy when we arrived at next Agricamper - Cantina del Vesuvio - and had a lovely welcome from Mariella. It’s beyond Naples, but with access by train to Naples, Sorrento - and tomorrow the courtesy van will take us to Pompeii - for free! We just have to call, and they’ll collect too!
We’re booked in for a wine tasting with food on Saturday lunchtime.
All the staff leave here at 6pm, and we’re by ourselves, locked in - apparently a security van will come around at sometime!
We can also use the washing machine for free! So happy! We’re doing two loads tonight, and plan on staying here a few days as a base to see Sorrento and towards the Amalfi coast.
They don’t do tumble driers over here - so Dave is like a Chinese laundry inside at present!
I may have made some Aperol spritzers tonight - very good even if I say so myself. The Moscato Prosecco was only €3.95, and the Aperol €12.60 at the Orizzonte shop this morning. Makes drinks out seem very expensive!
We have lovely views, over the sea and toward Pompeii in front, and Mount Vesuvius behind. The sunset was pretty spectacular too - and I saw bats 🦇
Not sure the lizard in the sink was happy at being disturbed when we went to do laundry.
The only downsides to being here are - one - mosquitoes 🦟 - I’ve heard one in Dave, but can’t find it and - two - rubbish internet, however, it may be because of our aerial!
