Gorey - 4 June 2023
4 June 2023 - Gorey, Co Wexford
It was quiet and eventually dark in our field last night, could see the moon out too - this was nearly 10pm!
Frustratingly I didn’t sleep that well, often don’t when it’s full moon, but only made the connection in the last few years 😉
As the forecast shows - sun, sun and more sun. Decided to go for a swim before shower time this morning.
It was actually really nice, albeit a bit slappy - only swam for 10 minutes - did make me smile to see my husband on the shore, in his fleece - and could see he was cold from his stance!
Once we left there was heavy traffic in the little lanes, lots of cars going to the beach for the day. En route, saw the strawberry seller, so stopped off. €8 for the punnet - they do taste delicious - but not sure they’ll last long - as in them, not me just eating them!
Tintin drove for about 40 minutes, we’re now at an ‘Aire’ in Gorey - so at least we can service Dave tomorrow morning before our last day in Ireland.
Had a look at Google maps whilst deciding what to do. Bikes out, and off to Tara Hill. Thought of Jo’s dog, seemed a good omen 😊
So Tara Hill is only 253m high, and not to be confused with the Hill of Tara in Co Meath - which we heard about when visiting Newgrange (28.05.2023).
Has been just over 9 miles cycle, and only about 8,000 steps. The town of Gorey is quite large - and packed, considering it’s Sunday.
Rode as far as we could up some of the paths towards Tara Hill. We might have come to a dead end, and Tintin might have fallen off his bike, with style - again! It might be once more, and he’ll be having a walk through frame bike! For someone who has had a hip replaced, and due to have the other one done, it’s quite a way to cock his leg, especially on a slope! He usually scoots to start but the hill was steep up ahead. He fell on his ‘new’ hip side and buttock. I’m sure will hear more about it later when the stiffness sets in ☹️
I would just like to say, I did check he was ok before taking a photo seeing as I missed the opportunity last time 😉 He feels the need to lay there, and just check in with his body before trying to move it. There was a private house at the end of the lane - with cameras - alas, no one came to assist!
So, being young, fit and able - he bounced back - and we walked up the rest of Tara Hill!
Lovely views from all directions. Definitely an abundance of foxgloves.
The sky was so blue, reminded us of going to the top of Teide in Tenerife.
We didn’t actually get to the very top - as you can see - the path hasn’t been cut back, not worth the scratches on bare legs having already seen such good views.
There’s a house for sale on the way there, and out of interest, had a look online when we got back. For €1.25m you can buy this 7 bedroom house - it’s fair to say that Guernsey is overpriced!

Not saying we like it, but sometimes it’s good to be nosey!
Stopped off at a supermarket on the way back - poppadoms bought ready to go with a chicken curry tonight.
We’re the only moho here at the moment - think it’s fairly new, first review on park4night was 30 April 2023. It has a very pleasant view out over a park area too. This is what Ireland should be providing if they want us tourists to contribute in their towns!
