Inishcrone, Easkey, Aughris Head and Dunmoran Strand - 12 May 2023
12 May 2023 - Inishcrone Pier/Easky Pier/Aughris Head - County Sligo
What a difference a bit of sun makes ☀️ Me driving today - don’t know for how long, as we just pootled along the coast on the WAW, stopping off at discovery points along the way.
First stop was Inishcrone Pier - road to actual pier was closed, so Dave was abandoned on a wide side path so we could walk and have a look. Lots of children being measured up for poles for stand-up paddle boarding.
Next up, Easky Pier and Roslee Castle - or what’s left of it. Hard to believe this is one of Ireland’s top surfing spots!
Then we parked up at Aughris, and went for about an hour coastal walk. It was lovely 😊Peaceful, lovely scenery, near the sea, lots of birds, plus sheep and cows in the fields - plus the sun was out.
We were chuffed to see our first Kittiwakes. Stonechats kept on posing, and saw lots of meadow pipets and whimbrel (we think).
The little black and white dog was desperate to play ball - with anyone. Its very friendly owner chatted for a while - she also had a black and white cat called Ray who she’d found abandoned as a kitten, and had hand reared using a syringe for the milk. In the pet carrier she had a really, really tiny white kitten - another one she’d found. Generally the people are so friendly!
By about 13.30 we were back at the Beach bar for lunch. Was really good - we’re still full 5 hours later! Mine was fresh crumbed haddock with chips and salad, Tintin had the sea bass, mash and veggies - with drinks - €46.
Seemed to be three dogs that belonged there, but were no bother!
Decided to take advantage of the weather (you never know here how long it will last!). Drove another 15 minutes or so, and parked up at a beach called Dunmoran Strand. Went for a walk on the beach, despite the sun being out - was too chilly to sit out. Sat in Dave, who has been like a vented greenhouse (!) and read our books.
It doesn’t take much to have a good day, fair weather and being out and about in nature!
Dean is currently having an outing too - so more overhead views…
