Lansalaün - 13 September 2021
Had a walk along the quay which ended up over 8000 steps through the forest and back along the roads. Hour or so’s drive down the dual carriageway to the old Brest to Nantes canal at Lansalaün and a 10mile ride to finish the day.
Another really beautiful sunset at Trévagan last night, so had to take more photos…
The church bells rang out on the hour, and every half hour - and throughout the night. Tintin said someone was also doing additional bell ringing at 7am and noon.
Was another night whereby sleep eluded me for many hours - brain just too active to switch off. Did finish yet another book!
It was raining this morning, so took umbrellas going out for a walk, so the sun came out! Walked alongside the L’Aulne for a while through trees, and took a sort of circular route back on the roads - about 8,000 steps. Saw a blackcap, but photo no good!
No baguette today, as no shops anywhere near - so cheese and crackers!
Tintin drove for over an hour, and we’re now Billy no mates again, parked up right alongside the canal - at a place called Lansalaün. It’s on the Nantes–Brest canal which links the two seaports of Nantes and Brest through inland Brittany. It was built in the early 19th century, and its total length as built was 385 km with 238 locks.
For the want of something to pass the time, we went for a cycle along the tow path. We passed about 25 locks on this disused section. Saw a couple of herons, which didn’t hang around for a photo!
Some sections of plants alongside have been left more ‘wild’ in order to attract wildlife - lots of butterflies and bees.
Stopped off and hand fed the rabbit some grass - seemed appreciative! 10 miles there and back. Started to rain a few minutes after we’d put the bikes away - but now just overcast.
Today’s drive was just so that we’re getting closer to St Malo - think we’ll end up sleeping near check in overnight tomorrow, as check in is at 0630 on Wednesday - and we can’t miss the ferry!
