09.05 - Moulay (by Mayenne River) / Happy Liberation Day
This weather is just so changeable. Was chilly this morning - about 10° (not even really early!) - this afternoon has been 25°+!
Another Moho parked up next to us last evening - didn’t realize they were English until we left this morning - could have had a chat!
Me driving first - just over an hour to a service station. Decided we’d have an early lunch in the carpark, as the second drive was due to take nearly two hours, but Tintin did it in about 90 minutes - not even speeding too much 😉
So, please let me know how this works, each day for the last couple of days, I’ve been putting distance from where we are to St Malo. Yesterday said 4 hours, after more than 2-1/2 hours driving today - it still says it’s 2 hours! We’re going as direct as we can!
One village we drove through had colourful blankets wrapped around each tree - a little bit strange.
Was also nice to drive without lots of lorries - maybe holidays do have some benefits. However, feeling slightly bereft without visiting boulangeries! I do think some supermarkets were open this morning - but just for some bread and maybe cakes - too much hassle!
So, we’re parked up by the Mayenne River, in amongst the cars. No one seems to care that we’re too big - there are other mohos here too.
It was still extra layers needed kind of bike riding at first - but warmed up a lot. We rode nearly 14 miles, just there and back alongside the river. Thought it was a canal at first - whatever - the water is brown!
Lots of people out and about. Back to our cheery Bonjour - so all good 😊
Think we saw llamas? (rather than alpacas), cows and calfs, sheep and lambs, goats and horses.
Tintin took a good photo of the heron, who surprisingly didn’t fly away.
The man rock climbing actually had a chain saw with him, and was tackling tree branches above! I looked back, and Tintin was having a chat - doesn’t even seem to matter to him that it was all in French!
We were surprised to see what looked like a homemade raft with 4 people plus bikes and ‘stuff’ paddling down the river! We both took photos and the lady called out to ask if we could send her some photos. Took down her number (her English was very good) and sent some photos - always good to have! They even managed to get through locks ok!
And of course I did my usual of taking photos of photos!
Lovely afternoon out - we even stopped for a Magnum ice-cream. Just one random place open along the path - doing a roaring trade with all the passing cyclists and pedestrians.
