Finally, after nearly 2 years we are bound for France in Dave on Condor Voyager - 5 September 2021

Well, this pandemic has certainly stopped our travelling in its tracks. Double vaccination and easing of restrictions has led us to decide to go to France for 6 weeks. No plans, just away.

Finally, after nearly 2 years we are bound for France in Dave on Condor Voyager - 5 September 2021

Well, it’s exactly two years ago today that we were last in France - seems like forever!

Bit tight getting out of our drive in Guernsey

Our 13.10 departure to St Malo on the Condor Voyager was uneventful, totally foggy - so couldn’t see a thing! Absolutely tiny duty free - only rum available was Captain Morgan’s Spiced Gold - good job we like it!

We now have a stamp in our passports - very old school. Passport control was a breeze, just handed over our passports, Covid vaccination certificates, along with our signed sworn undertaking to comply - weren’t even really looked at properly.

Can’t remember the last time we had a stamp in our passports

And then, get this - no customs! Oh, if only I’d known! I usually take lots of frozen foods, chicken already chopped up, spaghetti bolognese sauce, chilli etc, along with Guernsey milk, cheese, Greek yogurt etc. Of course it’s Sunday so the supermarkets are shut, tomorrow we’re shopping at some stage!

We have been law abiding citizens, and in accordance with a new French law brought in January this year - bought our Angles Mort stickers which have to be placed either side of the front of the moho, and one at the back. They are a bit like when you follow a large vehicle with stickers which say - if you can’t see my mirrors, I can’t see you. Haven’t seen any on other mohos yet, and can’t imagine they’re all only 3.5t! We are 4.4t, so legally need them. Will keep a look out. Apparently it’s an on the spot fine of €130 if you’re caught without the stickers.

Martin drove for just over an hour, it was really hot and sunny just out of St Malo, but we’re now going towards St Brieuc - just in front of us should be the sea - but we can’t see anything due to fog - will go exploring tomorrow. At least it’s cool here for now.

We thought we’d be able to use Martin’s phone as a hotspot, but that’s really not working out - so he’s taken his SIM card out of his phone to use in the Mifi unit. We need to change quite a few settings on our iPads/iPhones so that data doesn’t get eaten up too quickly by uploading photos to the cloud, or updating apps etc. It will no doubt take us a while to get back into the swing of life in Dave again!

We have no actual plans of where we’re going, will just see what happens…

Rum o’clock and blog time.
