Puerto Banús - 26 September 2024

26.09 - Puerto Banús and Marbella - Andalusia

Lovely falling to sleep with the sound of the crashing waves in Adra last night.

Total of about 3 hours driving today which we shared. I got lucky and drove first. Were lots of tunnels and viaducts and not too much traffic. After 90 minutes, we stopped off and filled up with LPG again. The place even had a moho service station, so did everything apart from fill with water.

Tintin then drove, by then we were going past Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmädena, Fuengirola - through Marbella. Fair to say it was busy, and at times confusing - might have had to turn around at roundabouts a few times! The scenery changed from plastic greenhouses and scrub land to white washed houses and more well maintained gardens and greenery.

We’re parked up only about 200m from the beach, about a 5 minute cycle from Puerto Banús. It’s scrub land, owned by a friendly Moroccan man - who charges €5 - and we can stay the night!

After a quick lunch, bikes out and off we went. Loads of security guards all around Puerto Banús. We weren’t even allowed to ride our bikes - yet cars could drive 🤷‍♀️

Gary - a few cars for you…

Not sure we should have even been cycling on some of the paths - but no one stopped us.

Although it got to 32° driving here - it’s been really windy - so hasn’t felt too hot.

We rode into Marbella, locked up our bikes and had a walk through the old town part.

The ice creams were good - €7.60 - could choose two flavours.

The church was open, and free. What’s the lady in black all about?

Also not sure how the lookie, lookie men make a living. There were so many of them - bet there wares were dusty today. Did actually see a few people potentially buying from them…

It’s fair to say it wasn’t a pleasant ride back. Wind had picked up and we were riding into it - feels like we’ve have free dermal abrasion!

Again, didn’t look that inviting - but we were hot and dusty - so had a swim at the end of our cycle. Even tried to shower off the bikes!

Once back at Dave had to try and clean up our bikes before putting them away.

Think we’re now alone in the carpark. Despite being so hot, we’re parked up under eucalyptus trees in the shade, so 🤞it won’t be too hot to sleep.

Need to cook tea - and as we have more gas - can make another batch of granola. Living the dream!

In some ways, I almost enjoyed Benidorm more - you knew what you were getting - huge high rise buildings - but the beaches either side were lovely - Marbella is more sprawling - just a massive collection of bars, restaurants and shops. Even as lovely as Puerto Banús is with its upmarket designer shops, posh visiting cars and expensive yachts - it’s just an area for people to sit and eat, drink and people watch! I’m sure it’s more pleasurable on a less windy day.

13 miles cycling and 5000 steps today.
