Scheidegger Wasserfälle - 24 May 2019
A run to start the day. We shared the driving today as we did almost all of the remaining alpine road going west and ending up at a waterfall carpark. We’ll have the sound of rushing water all night.
24.05.19 - Last night after having made on-going repairs with clear Gorilla tape to the front bumper (used on the window too - is good stuff!), Tintin rang our insurance company Aviva on their out of hours line. Took a while to get through, but really helpful guy logged our call and said someone from their international team would be in contact...
Just had the rest of the spagbol sauce on rye bread toast as it was about 8.30pm by then. Tintin had a headache - and toothache, so went to bed early.
As it was sunny this morning - we thought we’d better go running, despite being in the hills, as it’s six days since we last had a go! Week 5, run 1 - done ✅. Was three lots of 5 minutes today, even though there was beautiful scenery, was hard uphill! Lots of cows with their bells jangling, think we saw a couple of deer (yes - alive, frolicking around as they should do). Anyway, we managed it!
After breakfast, shower etc - bikes out and off we went for a couple of hours, but only 11 miles.
Just as we were leaving a lady called Kim from Aviva phoned. Really helpful, she’s actually German but with brilliant English. The lady who reversed into us didn’t sign our form, so Kim said if she phoned her and she admitted liability then we wouldn’t need her signature. Later in the day Tintin called her back, but had received an email too - basically because she’s admitted liability, we don’t have to pay the £200 excess (if we do, it will be refunded), plus our no claims bonus won’t be affected, and our next premium won’t increase because of it. Result! Trust Ford are the approved repair place on Guernsey, but they need us to order the parts. As anything Mobilvetta can only be ordered through the dealership, Marquis - Tintin will email them and see how many months it will take. It is a pain, but we’re delighted with the service we’ve received from Aviva. Started off riding at Oy-Mittelberg. In most towns, we seen tall poles, sometimes with flags, or carvings all the way down. At the top is what we’d call a Christmas tree - strange!
Actually saw two cats today - but sadly not to touch! I think the cows around this region are really pretty, not sure what breed they are. Rode into Wertach and bought our lunch from the bakery. Decided it might be nice to ride around Grüntensee lake. It was going so well until the path disappeared under water! There has been so much rain that a few lower parts were flooded. We took our bikes into the meadows, and after a while managed to join the path again. Passed a tree climbing adventure park - closed! An enjoyable ride over a variety of terrain!’
After lunch, Tintin drove because he knew we’d be doing the Oberjoch pass - with 105 bends! Managed to fill and empty Dave for €1 - bargain! He then drove to a Park4night place - €4 at a cable car place. It was actually open! Weren’t that happy with the parking or view, so had a cup of tea and a danish and did more research. I then drove for about 45 minutes - we’re at Schneidegger Wasserfälle - yes waterfalls! - on our way towards Lake Constance. We’re about 1.5 km away from Austria 🇦🇹
Was €2 to go past cafe to see the waterfalls, but we could see them anyway! And goats 🐐too! We’re parked up with the sound of the waterfall just behind us, and cows in the meadows opposite.
I struggle with the vastness of the landscape - has been beautiful seeing the mountains with snow on them, coming down through all the trees to pastures full of cattle. The air feels clean too!
We’ve come west, trying to outrun the weather forecast - but sadly rain is inevitable in the next few days - albeit not as heavy as was forecast more in the mountains.
