Sky Road Loop then Connemara National Park - 6 May 2023
6 May 2023 - Sky Road loop drive then Connemara National Park
We were on our own again last night. Watched another episode of Magpie Murders.
Tintin driving today. He fancied trying the Sky Road on the WAW, as someone said it was better than the Ring of Kerry. Had a day of just fantastic scenery. Drove about 2 hours. Quite a lot was single lane traffic for two way traffic, with some pull ins. Luckily, not too much traffic in opposite direction 🙂
Think it’s the first time we’ve seen sheep running in the road!
Stopped off at Cleggan Harbour. There was a ferry departing to Inishbofin.
Drove to Connemara National Park, home of some of the Twelve Bens or Beanna Beola range of mountains. The park covers almost 5,000 acres of wild bog and mountain scenery. Had lunch, then went walking. I’m not sure when we woke this morning that we thought we’d be climbing 445m up Diamond Hill! Took about 2-1/2 hours - was only 14,000 steps though.
Beautifully maintained, either stones or wooden boards to walk on as either side was boggy. It was all free too!
I’m sure the pictures will tell the story. We were quite chuffed to get to the top. My bionic man coped well, but pain killers needed on way down!
Had a cuppa in Dave whilst deciding where to park up for the night. Not much enthusiasm for driving far, so only a few miles away so we can recuperate…
This data issue will become a problem nearing the end of our 30 days - can use about 6GB per day. Just playing around with photos from today, a bit of research - and we’ve used over 4GB of data - that’s before the blog is uploaded! We think it’s to do with syncing everything to iCloud. If anyone has any advice on conserving our data - please email us!
