Taden then St Malo - 9 November 2022
Ha - so much for best laid plans. Walked off in the dark for about 15 minutes to find the pizza restaurant. Despite what Google said - La Casa de Pizza was closed! Couldn’t find any others open, and ended up in an Indian restaurant which we’d walked past on our way up the hill. An Indian meal - in France - really! We were the only two to begin with. Didn’t bode well with the restaurant man outside smoking when we went in!
We had ordinary naan, and a cheese naan???! They were just cooked, warm, crispy and for me, the best part! Tintin enjoyed his, me less so - was put off when I found some soggy chicken skin - and the actual chicken was Madame Poulet - very dry.
Another French couple came in, they were celebrating the lady’s birthday. Really kind - they sent us over a glass of champagne each 😊
So - night time or daytime pictures of the castle better?
Bad night’s sleep for me - maybe more alcohol than usual, or the mild curry - don’t know - by 2am I started reading my book, think I was asleep by 4am?
This morning we walked back up the hill to find a boulangerie. The bread was still warm, yum - and lovely smell.
As it was our last day in France, Tintin drove - as he likes driving.
Just over an hour and arrived at Taden. Had lunch, then out on our bikes on the path alongside the Rance into Dinan. Looked lovely in the sunshine.
We ate our chocolate delights from the boulangerie - can’t remember the name, but biscuit, topped with caramel, covered in chocolate - what’s not to like! We bought other cakes for later - think it’s because I was miffed we didn’t go back to Maen Roch yesterday! We’d seen some splendid looking mille feuille cakes, but said we’d get them later - we were on our pizza hunt at the time. Both genuinely forgot, as we’d decided to drive on further - and the cakes were forgotten about until last night when I couldn’t sleep!
Then rode on to the port at Lyvet. Decades ago, Tintin’s friend Gus worked there and he remembers the lock keepers mission was to get everyone drunk!
He was hoping the bar would be open today - but - you guessed it - closed. About 10 miles - lovely to be back in sunshine.
Once back at Dave, we had the other cakes and a cuppa - sadly not worth getting fat for…
Tintin has now driven another 40 minutes - en route, topped up with diesel at a Total to keep Dave happy over winter.
We’re now parked up with another Guernsey moho in the Condor check-in for our lovely place to sleep tonight!
Dave has excelled himself this trip - nothing untoward happened!
His average fuel consumption has been 25.7 mpg, average speed only 33mph! and we’ve spent 108 hours travelling.
So that’s it for another year, if you’ve been reading for the last nearly 8 weeks - then thank you 😊
