La Bréche - 19 May 2022
Well, for a variety of reasons we decided to change our ferry home to tomorrow afternoon. Consequently, we drove up closer to Cherbourg and have spent the afternoon on the beach close to the Omaha landings.
Spring adventures as travel returns to normal
Our spring 2022 tour marked a return to more normal travel conditions. With borders fully open and restrictions lifted, we could once again enjoy the freedom of motorhome travel without the complications of the previous two years.
March to June 2022 (approximately 4 months)
This spring tour felt like a celebration of travel freedom. We took our time, stayed longer in places we loved, and really savored the motorhome lifestyle. The combination of spring weather, open borders, and our years of experience made this one of our most enjoyable tours yet.
Well, for a variety of reasons we decided to change our ferry home to tomorrow afternoon. Consequently, we drove up closer to Cherbourg and have spent the afternoon on the beach close to the Omaha landings.
Busy day for us, visit to Père Magloire before lunch. Bike ride all around Deauville and Trouville sur Mer this afternoon plus swim for Kay and out for dinner.
Walked around the lake this morning and debated where to go. Ended up here and very pleasant it is. Nearly had an accident when a large load truck decided he didn’t have to give way at a roundabout.
Bike ride into Chartres to view the impressive cathedral. A funeral was held during part of our visit, quite strange. Kay took us out of Chartres and to a grassy pitch by a lake for a relaxing afternoon.
Had a wander around Châteaudun this morning, very nice town. Pretty much straight drive to Chartres. Waiting for the thunderstorm that’s due this evening, I can hear the thunder as I type.
Bike ride into Orléans for a look around somewhere bigger than a village. Massive cathedral dominates the centre. Kay drove in the afternoon to Châteaudun that was on our list from a few days ago.
A ride into Beaugency and a walk discovering the historic town. Quick stop at a motorhome dealer to look at new mohos, nothing we want! We’re now parked in the forest close to the Loire.
We decided to get back onto the Loire for more interest. The Chateau here was very good value and was full of artefacts and information. Never had a tour of the attic and the dungeons before.
Had a quick look around the market at Oucques then off to Vendôme for some diesel and lpg plus a look around the ruined castle. Spending the afternoon and night here.
A lovely walk around Blois followed by three attempts to find somewhere to sleep.
Liberation Day in Guernsey, we’re forever thankful. We had an intruder last night, well invited really.
Bike ride in the other direction along Le Cher as far as Azay-sur-Cher and back, over 15 miles. Short drive to here and again on our own at the moment.
Had a wander around Chinon then a one hours drive to Bléré. On our bikes for a ride along the river to Chenonceau.
A long afternoon spent at Chinon castle with an ‘interesting’ at the end.
A morning walk around Turquant then off to Champigny-sur-Veude alongside a lovely local with all sorts of wildlife going on.
Busy day visiting the beautiful villages of Montsoreau and Candes-Saint-Martin plus the Abbeye Royale de Fontevrad.
A cycle ride for a lovely day out in Saumur visiting the chateau and lunch.
A day of taking the wrong turn four times in Angers on the way to Lidl for water and they didn’t have any!
Walking, cycling, driving, sitting and drinking, the day with everything.
Well, we finally made it back to France for a quick 3 week trip, where we’re not quite sure, mystery tour!
