Ürzig, Germany 2 May 2019
Big shop at Lidl then on Bernkastel for some tourist sight seeing again. Decided to park up for the night on top of the world at Ürzig. Trouble was CoPilot took us down an access road/track to the grape growers. Found the correct carpark in the end for a great view of the Mosel.
02.05.19 - Could be bothered, and the risotto was quite nice! Quiet overnight. Woke up to hear the children being delivered to the kindergarten from early on.
Tintin drove about 15 minutes to a Lidl. Even had parking spaces for mohos. Much bigger than Lidls we’ve visited in France - and even more disorganized if possible!
However, four still warm butter croissants for €1 - and they were really tasty! Found most of the stuff I think we need - then the dilemma of where will it all fit?!
Tintin then drove for about an hour alongside the Mosel (spelt Moselle when in France and Luxembourg!) and parked up at Bernkastel-Kues. On the way, saw so many hang gliders, but my camera couldn’t really zoom enough to see. Paid €1.50 for the privilege of parking and went for a wander. Very picturesque, but also very touristy - and wouldn’t like to be here in summer. Just places to eat and drink everywhere!
Mum, good job you’re not here - popped into a shop to ask if we could take a photo of the enormous hand crafted jade in the shape of a ship. Fantastic - was €3,500 - and already sold. The owner of the shop was a Canadian man who wanted to work near tourists! Sure there must be places closer to home! Anyway, things like the rope are all carved out of one single piece of jade, none of it glued. That was craftsmanship! Was jade, but obviously not the really expensive kind!
Tintin had found a place on Park4night right up in the hills to stay overnight. Well, Colin the co-pilot is in the doghouse again! Close, but oh - what a narrow, single path to take us on. Just grateful we didn’t meet the tractor we saw higher up. Not sure the photos do justice to the hanging on to the edge of the seat feeling. Poor Dave probably has some scratches on the roof and sides from the trees. In one area, there was an uneven wall one side, and a very steep drop the other! Talk about being between a rock and a hard place! Tintin kept his cool 😎! Decided it really wasn’t the place to stay! The farmer chuckled away as we returned!
Anyway, the real place very close by is pretty spectacular! Small carpark, all on our own, with a view down over the vines and the Mosel.
After a coffee/tea and a vanilla cream bun - well Lidl shopping day - perks! - I cut Tintin’s hair. Possibly not very well, but at least an even grade all over!
