Liberation Day in Guernsey, we’re forever thankful. We had an intruder last night, well invited really.

Monday, 9 May 2022 - Huisseau-sur-Cosson

Last night had a burger for tea! Lots of fried onions, fresh tomatoes, cheese and salad - not very inspiring, but heyho!

We had another first last night! We’d seen a few cats around Dave, but didn’t think anymore of it. However, when I opened the screen door, the black and white cat came trotting in! He (?) wandered everywhere, then walked over my bed. I opened my emergency pack of Dreamies, he seemed quite happy. I really think he would have curled up on my bed if we’d allowed him. He looked kittenish - but when we picked him up - he was so heavy! He’d previously been up the trees, flushing out the pigeons! Don’t worry Millie, he’s not coming home with us!

This morning went to the boulangerie just around the corner to pick up a baguette for lunch - update - first baguette that wasn’t that good!

I drove for about 30 minutes yesterday, and Tintin’s drive today was about an hour. First time we’ve been in slower moving traffic, just some big lorries, and some road works - but not for long.

Once again, didn’t really know where to drive to, so we plumped for this carpark as on Park4night it looked like it had separate bays for mohos - it doesn’t!

We had briefly thought about visiting the Zoo Parc de Beauval. It had good reviews, however, I’m still not totally sure about animals in captivity - although I know we’d enjoy it. Also, it would take at least 6 hours to wander around - and the forecast was for sun, sun and more sun! Maybe another time.

Anyway, over 18 miles cycling today. We rode past Chambord. Again, we’ve visited before, so glad we have - as it’s currently covered up in lots of scaffolding - and doesn’t look it’s best!

The cycle paths here are all fairly good, so we rode into Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire - just for a sit down to watch the river and somewhere to go and sit in the shade. Everything was closed, maybe because they had some kind of fete there yesterday? No Demi for Tintin!

Everywhere we go, we see lots of yellow flowering broom. Our guide at Chinon had told us was named as that was what it was used for. Just had to Google it - sure enough - “Brom in Old English was a coarse shrub, many types of which were used for sweeping. With its long, thornless stems, Broom was one of the most effective and comfortable to use and therefore won the name.”

We also saw fields of something else I had to Google. It was fava beans - or broad beans to us. It would be lovely to just know all this, but it’s also nice to learn!

It has been so hot today! It was mainly ok cycling, however, when we got back to Dave he was over 30° inside. Therefore we’ve sat outside this afternoon, in the shade of silver birches, reading our books. It’s now nearly 8pm, and cooling off enough to come inside. We just had cheese and crackers - too hot to eat much else! Also, Tintin bought a few cheeses at SuperU and I’m really not sorry that finally he’s thrown out the little bit of Petit Munster left. My word - does it stink?! Even a quick dive into the fridge for milk lets the foul odour escape! I didn’t even like the taste of it!

It’s strange, we were sitting in a carpark, near a cemetery, in a strange town in the middle of nowhere - but we were quite happy 😊
